The initial theme/idea of this song began in Dallas, TX during Nov-2021 and was then further refined in Kansas City, MO shortly thereafter. Over the next several months the song continued to develop as we carefully built layer upon layer. Aside from one day in St. Louis, MO during Christmas break, the entire collaboration process was done virtually. During that day in St. Louis, we had the fortunate pleasure of working with Tom Pini where we were able to add some additional live instrumentation and refine our vocal melodies. After making some additional arrangement and vocal changes, the song was ready for the key phase of musical creation, the mixing process.
In order to complete this very important phase, we again turned to Tom Pini. Thanks to technology, all 3 of us were able to mix the entire song virtually since we were spread out across 3 cities. It took about 5-6 mixing sessions (7-8 hours in total) to get the effects, balance, and automation levels in the right spots. Tom’s attention to detail and finely tuned ear really helped us bring this song’s production value to the next level and we are greatly appreciative of that. Thanks Tom!
We believe Hope for Now is the perfect song to establish the Black Box Signal project. It encapsulates the unique sound and feel we will further build upon, and provides a very energetic introduction for us. The blend of live instruments and virtual/software instruments coupled with our diverse production styles is the key driver for our sound. We thoroughly enjoyed every step of this song’s journey and we are very excited to be able to share it with all of you. We hope you enjoy it!
